Abstract Lack of electricity remains a significant problem in the ABATA group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which constitutes a socio-economic and tourist center. This study explores the use of different energy sources, particularly photovoltaic systems, by assessing their level of adoption compared to other sources such as batteries, generators, and solar panels.
Methodological Framework
To address these issues, this research utilized a stratified random sampling plan that encompassed 50 statistical units in order to collect data using interview, documentary, and detached observation techniques.
Level of Use of Solar Panels Compared to Other Energy Sources
Results indicate that solar panels are underutilized (8% level use compared to battery usage (44%) while their cost is relatively high. According to interviews conducted, the main reasons for choosing other energy sources were availability (28%), lower costs (36%), and anticipated benefits (16%).\n\n### Difficulties in Accessing and Using Energy Sources Field surveys revealed that batteries degrade rapidly (causing torch springs damage), solar panels only function optimally during drought periods, generators are prone to malfunctions, and all forms of energy sources incur regular expenses.
Monthly Expenses and Advantages of Different Energy Sources
Generators are the most expensive energy source in the region (39,000 FC per month) followed by batteries at 10,000 FC and solar panels with no monthly fees except for potential costs during a breakdown.
Conclusion
The research emphasizes that the adoption of photovoltaic systems is essential to effectively address energy needs in rural areas like ABATA group. Addressing the limitations related to their use will increase the likelihood of better engagement with this technology, ultimately contributing to more equitable access and development within the region.
