DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre has confirmed making contact with the entourage of Monaco striker Paris Brunner regarding his international future. The 20-year-old forward, who has scored three goals in four Ligue 1 matches this season, is eligible to represent both the Leopards and Germany.
Desabre stated he has spoken with the player's parents. "We went to see the parents to discuss. But we are not going to put pressure on him," the French coach said. Brunner, called up to the Germany U21 squad for this break, is being given space to decide.
"He is attached to Congo, just as he is to Germany. He will take time to think, then we will see in November what happens," Desabre added. Germany senior coach Jürgen Klopp, who named two expanded squads without including Brunner, had indicated the Monaco player's case was being considered for the U21s.
DR Congo, who face Equatorial Guinea at home on 24 September, are looking to bolster their attack. The team is in a tough spell with three losses in their last five games, including a 2-1 defeat to England in July. Brunner's decision is expected after the November international window.
